Yesterday 22nd of October Apple launched two new Ipad models, The Ipad Air and Ipad mini with retina display. Both models come now with faster A7 processor with 64bit architecture. According to Apple the Ipad Air has 2 times faster processor, graphics power and wifi. It has lost some weight and has much slimmer look. It is now only 7.5 millimeters thin and 28% lighter than the previous full sized Ipad.

The Ipad mini has 4 times faster processor and 8 times more powerful graphics than the previous model. The screen has been updated to retina display with resolution of 2048x1536 pixels. This is the most wanted update to the Ipad mini. The Ipad mini also has better connectivity when using LTE and better antennas for wifi.

Both models will be available later in November in many European countries, US, Canada and Australia. In Asia they will be available in China, Signapore and Hong Kong. Currently there is no release date annouced for Thailand but the article will be updated as soon as Apple annouces the date.

For a long time I have had a plan to buy a small tablet with 3G or LTE connectivity. The potential tablets for me are the 32GB Ipad mini with retina display and with LTE and The new Nexus 7 2013 model with LTE. None of them are available in Thailand yet. I assume that the LTE model of the new Nexus 7 will be around 12000 baht and the Ipad mini 20000 baht. Which one do you think is a better choice? I think the Ipad mini has better screen size and resolution. Also the Apple ecosystem is better with thousands of tablet optimized applications. The new Nexus 7 has great spesifications and it is also much cheaper.

UPDATE: According to macrumors.com Apple has a shortage of Ipad mini's retina screens until early 2014.

UPDATE: It seems that Apple does not have problems to produce Ipad Air models. Source link.

UPDATE: Ipad Air has got some great reviews.

UPDATE: Apple's Asia-Pacific Online store is taking Ipad Air orders now.
